Clean Fifteen & Dirty Dozen
Because shopping 100 % organic can be $$$, check out the 2020 clean fifteen and dirty dozen list below, (aka what foods you should always buy organic or avoid, and the foods you can buy conventionally.)
Dirty Dozen
- Strawberries
- Spinach
- Kale
- Nectarines
- Apples
- Grapes
- Peaches
- Cherries
- Pears
- Tomatoes
- Celery
- Potatoes
What’s the deal with the dirty dozen? All the above fruits/veggies (listed from highest toxicity levels) have been tested for the most pesticide residues. Aim to buy these items organic whenever possible. One thing that’s important to know is by just cleaning your produce (no matter how thorough) you will not remove any of the pesticides as they’re absorbed right in. Pesticides are not good for our health and are linked to all sorts of not so fun diseases/sicknesses.
Clean Fifteen
- Avocados
- Sweet Corn
- Pineapple
- Onions
- Papaya
- Frozen sweet peas
- Eggplant
- Asparagus
- Cauliflower
- Cantaloupe
- Broccoli
- Mushrooms
- Cabbage
- Honeydew
- Kiwi
You don’t always need to look for the organic label while shopping for these items listed above on the clean fifteen list. These items are least likely to be affected by pesticide residues.
